DAS GEGENTEIL

Drawing from various movement techniques our aim is to explore the potentiality of bodily transformation through performative action. The goal of the project is not for the participants to “become” something or someone, but rather to focus on and analyze the process of “becoming” and to learn the difference between the two.

We believe that states of being, both physical and mental, have a respective opposition (or “Das Gegenteil”.)

For us, dancing is at once what you are at any given moment, and your opposite. Using a number of schools of movement, such as Taekwondo, drama & physical theatre, throat singing and Butoh. We want to explore 101 ways of existence through intersections of these diverse techniques to derive the most unhuman and transformative movement potential of each of us.

LABORATORY

This is the 3rd Das Gegenteil laboratory. By the end of 2019 as the result of our performance practice we collected new ideas to approach the transformative states of mind, body and performance making strategies that we´re aiming to consolidate in the form of an upcoming laboratory.

WEEK#1 THE WAVE
NOV./27 TUE | THE WAVE * GROUP:
12-16:00 INPUT + 18-22:00 OPERATION
NOV./28 WED | THE WAVE * SOLOS:
12-16:00 INPUT + 18-22:00 OPERATION
“Every movement has its own wave. Each thought, feeling and desire they all have their own wave, as if in the motif of a familiar song. The ocean reminds us of the variability, the flexibility and surprise of nature itself. A wave is always a mystery, behind which, perhaps, God hid.” Das Gegenteil

WEEK#2 LOVE
DEC./04 TUE | LOVE * GROUP:
12-16:00 INPUT + 18-22:00 OPERATION
DEC./05 WED | LOVE * SOLOS:
12-16:00 INPUT + 18-22:00 OPERATION
““What kind of world does one see when one experiences it from the point of view of two and not one? What is the world like when it is experienced, developed and lived from the point of view of difference and not identity? That is what I believe love to be.” Alain Badiou

WEEK#3 AGORAPHOBIA
DEC./11 TUE | AGORAPHOBIA * GROUP:
12-16:00 INPUT + 18-22:00 OPERATION
DEC./12 WED | AGORAPHOBIA * SOLOS:
12-16:00 INPUT + 18-22:00 OPERATION
“The term agoraphobia denotes a phobic condition in which the sufferer becomes anxious in environments that are unfamiliar—for instance, places where he or she perceives that they have little control. Such anxiety may be triggered by wide open spaces, by crowds, or by some public situations, and the psychological term derives from the agora as a large and open gathering place.” Sandhya Pruthi, M.D.

WEEK#4 CUT-UP
DEC./18 TUE | CUT-UP * GROUP:
12-16:00 INPUT + 18-22:00 OPERATION
DEC./19 WED | CUT-UP * SOLOS:
12-16:00 INPUT + 18-22:00 OPERATION
“Cut ups are for everyone. Any body can make cut ups. It is experimental in the sense of being something to do. Right here, right now. Not something to talk and argue about. Greek philosophers assumed logically that an object twice as heavy as another object would fall twice as fast. It did not occur to them to push the two objects off the table and see how they fall. Cut the words and see how they fall.” William S. Burroughs
